Town Clerk Leslie Gonzalez began working toward achieving certification in October 2010.  There were 30 other municipal clerks in that freshman class which continued to meet twice a year in conjunction with Florida State University’s Institute of Government.

This fall 20 clerks graduated and are now eligible for certification through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.  As class president, Leslie was the speaker at the graduation ceremony.

“When I came to my first Clerk’s Academy, I had been a clerk for six weeks.  I learned so much not just from the formal classes, but from other clerks.  These Academies became vital to me and to my success as a clerk.

Being a clerk means something different to me because I am the Town Clerk of my hometown.  All clerks are a special group of people, but to know that when I go to work in the morning, I make a difference in the place where I grew up, the place where citizens know my family, the place where I played in the dirt so many years ago, has been delightfully rewarding.”
