Shelby Godwin and Wyatt Johnson got to meet each other at last.  Ten year old Shelby, daughter of Lamont and Kim Godwin of Bratt, has been fundraising for 18 month old Wyatt Johnson, son of Justin and Nicole Johnson of Century,  since she learned of Wyatt's liver condition.  Until Tuesday, October 15th, Shelby had never met little Wyatt.

The Johnsons surprised Shelby at the Bratt Elementary School where she is a 5th grader in Mrs. Cassady's class.  Escambia County School Superintendent Malcolm Thomas, Mayor of the Town of Century Freddie McCall, Bratt Elementary Principal Jeanene Hall, family and friends were present for the meeting.

Malcolm Thomas told Shelby that the world would be a better place if there were more people like her.

Mayor McCall read and presented Shelby with a Proclamation for her volunteerism and efforts to preserve and improve the quality of life for the citizens of our community.  Mayor McCall said, "There is a special place in Heaven for you," as he hugged Shelby.

Nicole, Justin, Daisy and Wyatt Johnson presented Shelby with a "Team Wyatt" t-shirt, a single white rose and a card to show their appreciation for the help that she has provided for their family.

Shelby gifted Wyatt with an outfit and a bear wearing a matching set.  Daisy, Wyatt's sister was given a set of pajamas and lots of "cool" candy.

The Johnsons and Godwins now have a bond that will never be broken.

If you would like to contribute to the Wyatt Johnson Fund, you may stop by Pen Air Federal Credit Union to do so or you may drive to Bratt on some Friday and Saturday afternoons for a cup of fresh squeezed orange juice by Shelby.
